The Search & Replace feature in the Memory Module allows users with the Manager role to efficiently modify or update translations. This feature is especially useful for updating terminology or making bulk changes to translations. The process involves searching for specific terms and replacing them with user-defined content. This article provides a comprehensive guide on using the Search & Replace feature, including its three modes: Replace on Specific Segment, Replace Page, and Replace All.

Affected users

  • Manager role, having access to the Memory

Accessing the Search & Replace Feature

  1. Log in to your account with Manager role credentials.
  2. Navigate to the Memory Module.

  3. Select a Source language, by clicking on one of the Memory.
  4. The Search Replace could be found on the top-right bar.
By default, the search will be done on all languages. To perform a search and replace for certain languages, select the required languages from the list of Target languages provided.

Search & Replace Modes

There are 3 different ways on how to perform the search and replace:

  1. Replace on Specific Segment
  2. Replace Page
  3. Replace All

Replace on Specific Segment

  1. Locate the desired segments with the Target Search bar. Type in your target search term and press Enter. Your searched term will be highlighted in yellow.
  2. Then in the Replace by bar, enter content to replace it with.
  3. From the list of segments present in the Results list, find your segment(s).
  4. Click on the Replace button, on the right-hand side (highlighted in green).

Replace Page

  1. Locate the desired segments with the Target Search bar. Type in your target search term and press Enter. Your searched term will be highlighted in yellow.
  2. Then in the Replace by bar, enter content to replace it with.
  3. Read and review the segments present on the page.
  4. To access the Replace page button, turn on the Warning toggle.
  5. Then click on Replace page.

Replace All

  1. Locate the desired segments with the Target Search bar. Type in your target search term and press Enter. Your searched term will be highlighted in yellow.
  2. Then in the Replace by bar, enter content to replace it with.
  3. Read and review the segments present on all pages.
  4. To access the Replace page button, turn on the Warning toggle.
  5. Then click on Replace all.

Context-Aware Replacement

The Search & Replace feature is not case-sensitive, ensuring relevance to the context.

If the difference between the target and replacement is significant, the original user input is retained.

Example:

Original Translation:

"My Cat is green."

Target Search: Cat

Replace By: dog

Resultant Translation:

"My Dog is green."

Since the word "Cat" has a capital C, the word to be replaced with, will retain the same the capitalization, hence "Dog" instead of "dog".

Important Considerations

  • Changes made using the Search & Replace feature are irreversible, emphasizing the need for careful consideration before initiating bulk modifications.
  • Users are advised to review and verify changes thoroughly.
  • The Search & Replace modal can be moved freely on your screen, so feel free to place it anywhere you want.
  • As a best practice, please narrow down your list of Target languages to have an accurate and precise list of segments.
